The Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center, a part of Edward-Elmhurst Health, one of the largest integrated health systems in Illinois, was recently awarded full accreditation status by the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) for May 2017 – April 2021.
ASTRO is the premier radiation oncology society in the world, with more than 10,000 members who are physicians, nurses, biologist, physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, and other health care professionals who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies.
The center received the ASTRO Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx), an independent radiation oncology practice accreditation program that builds upon and integrates ASTRO’s quality improvement initiatives. APEx consists of a series of standards and measures relating to the performance of a radiation oncology center and evaluates the clinical programs provided by a radiation oncology center, focusing on quality and safety of radiation oncology processes.
When you choose an APEx accredited facility, you can feel confident in the care that you are receiving by knowing that the center has voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to be sure it meets nationally-accepted standards, the staff are well qualified to perform and interpret your medical images and administer your radiation therapy treatments, the equipment is appropriate for the test or treatment you will receive, and the facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines.
The CyberKnife Center of Chicago is honored to be part of a department that achieved this prestigious designation and we want to thank and congratulate the staff and physicians on a job well done!
